Main Goal
Apply for Leiria for European Capital of Cultura in 2027.
The Application
In 2027, Portugal will have a city elected as European Capital of Culture, after Lisbon in 1994, Porto in 2001, and Guimarães in 2012. On May 22, 2015, the Mayor of Leiria, Raul Castro, announced Leiria’s wish to apply for this title.
The Region
Leiria listened its cultural agents and a first mission group identified a broader, bolder, and more fruitful idea of application. An unprecedented NETWORK of 26 municipalities was created with historical links between them, to diversify and strengthen this project.
