Young Portuguese inmates sing Mozart opera on way to freedom.
Ópera na Prisão (Opera in Prison)
Since 2003, professional artists from the world of classical music and young inmates have been meeting regularly inside a prison to exchange artistic experiences and set up an operatic production. A Mozart opera is performed, in 3-year cycles, involving the inmates, the direction of the prison, the technicians, the guards, family members, the outside community, an orchestra and professional opera singers. After a premiere behind bars, the production took the stage of the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, and continued its life outside, in the heart and in the memory of all those who heard it and were part of it.
